For the past seven years I have been working as the executive director of The Hut Teen Center in Middlebury. As the executive director I oversaw all aspects of the day to day operations of the Teen Center and ensured that the Center’s long-term vision, mission and financial objectives were met. Before I began working with Teen Center I primarily worked in the field of construction, so, even when was working with the Teen Center fulltime, I continued to take on small construction projects. Things like remodeling bathrooms, repairing rot, and doing siding and painting. These small projects went to help fund my own construction projects so I could complete the house I purchased with my wife in Middlebury. What I like to do in my time off from work changes with the season. In the summer I enjoy exploring the mountains of Vermont and soaking up the limited warm sunny days we have here in VT on our deck at home. Once the leaves change and we start getting some colder weather, I try and spend as much time as I can on Lake Champlain and in hidden sloughs and swamps hunting waterfowl. Once the snow starts to fly I transition to snowboarding. Typically I snowboard at Suagarbush Mountain Resort, but with the ever-improving technology of splitboards, I find myself spending more time traveling uphill in the backcountry in search of untracked powder in the trees where the snow can only be accessed without a ticket and lift. Although I miss working with the teen populations, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far here at ACCT. I have jumped right in on several projects including putting a final coat of asphalt at McKnight Lane, painting the exterior of several buildings before the end of the 2017 painting season, completing turnovers and assessing all of ACCT’s buildings in our portfolio to make sure they are operating at the highest possible standard. I am looking forward to the start of the 2018 construction season and continuing to work with all of the ACCT employees, board members and community partners in developing, managing and preserving quality, affordable housing and providing supports for families, seniors and individuals.
