At its monthly meeting on March 20, ACCT's Board voted to adopt new bylaws. The revisions are the culmination of several years of work to streamline governance of the organization while maintaining a strong role for residents. Some changes were necessary to reflect the current composition of ACCT residents; others will make ACCT more nimble in navigating the complex legal process needed to form multifamily housing partnerships, which are separate legal entities from ACCT. One key change was increasing resident membership on the board from one quarter to one third of board members.
In Summer 2016, ACCT called a Special Meeting of the Membership at which 24 members were present. The members gave their input into certain aspects of the bylaws, most notably conditions around the sale or transfer of land, and authorized the Board to amend the bylaws. The Board looked at many model bylaws, and after an 18-month revision process, the new bylaws are now in effect. They are available for download at www.addisontrust.org/acct-bylaws.
