AmeriCorps at ACCTACCT hosts a half-time AmeriCorps member through the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board AmeriCorps Program. The AmeriCorps member serves from approximately September through August, with recruitment occurring in June and July.
At ACCT, the AmeriCorps member serves as our Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC). The CEC acts as a point of contact for ACCT residents and applicants who may need some extra assistance relative to what our property managers are able to provide. Some recent examples of the kind of assistance the CEC might provide include: securing donated seeds for a resident to start a community garden; accessing funds to make a reasonable modification to a porch at an ACCT resident's home; and helping a vulnerable Vermonter fill out an application for housing. The CEC also plans general programming for residents, such as cook outs, dumpster days, community gardens, and food access. The CEC is also responsible for working with community partners to identify resources and promote collaboration. For example, the CEC attends local Addison County Housing Coalition meetings and looks for ways to share information and increase public engagement around issues of affordable housing. For more information about the CEC, refer to this Position Description. |
