May was an exciting month for Addison Housing Works' Community Gardens Program! Early in the month, residents, staff, and volunteers gathered across nine properties in Middlebury, Bristol, and Vergennes for our annual Green Up Day, preceding the statewide Green Up Day. Together, they cleaned community green spaces, removed trash and debris, prepped and repaired garden beds, and finally celebrated with pizza parties in each town. Later in May, residents from eleven communities joined Family Support Staff Precious and Kaio for Opening Garden Day, marking the start of another growing season. On this day, Precious and Kaio distributed starter plants and seeds to gardeners at each property for them to begin planting. For the past three years, our community gardens have provided opportunities to grow fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers while building connections with neighbors and spending time outdoors. A special thank you to Middlebury Agway, Vermont Natural AG Products, Billy Masterson of Lincoln, and Bristol Botanicals for supporting this year's community gardens. We look forward to watching the gardens and the community connections they inspire continue to flourish. Happy planting!
